President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed pride in his long-term vision for the continuous growth and development of Lagos, a state he once governed for eight years and helped set on the path to modernisation.
During his visit, Tinubu officially commissioned the newly completed Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge— a project originally conceived in 2002 during his administration as governor, but now brought to life by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The 5.04-kilometre bridge is part of three major projects inaugurated on Wednesday, marking the start of the President’s two-day working visit to Lagos.
Also commissioned were the five-storey Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) Building and the Lagos Multi-Agency Building, both located in Alausa.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Lagos State for raising the bar in delivering high-quality infrastructure, as he commissioned a series of landmark projects during his visit to the state.
Reflecting on his time as former governor, Tinubu spoke about his long-standing vision for a modern and continuously developing Lagos, noting that the foundations laid during his administration are still shaping the state’s progress today.
One of the major highlights of the visit was the commissioning of the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge — a project first conceived in 2002 during Tinubu’s tenure but now brought to life by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Stretching over 5 kilometres, the bridge is part of a broader effort to ease movement and improve connectivity across key parts of the city.
Also unveiled were the new five-storey Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) building and a multi-agency administrative complex, both located in Alausa. Representing the President at the event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio joined other APC governors, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, alongside top government officials and party leaders.
Tinubu congratulated Lagos residents, describing the projects as people-focused and impactful. He emphasized that efficient transportation plays a critical role in economic growth, noting that smoother traffic flow leads to increased productivity, business expansion, and improved living standards.
According to him, the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is more than just infrastructure — it is a pathway to opportunity. He added that Lagos continues to demonstrate resilience in tackling its mobility challenges, reinforcing its position as one of Nigeria’s most progressive states.
The President also expressed appreciation for the decision to name the new administrative complex after him, saying he accepted the honour with humility. Speaking on the LAGIS building, he highlighted the importance of technology and data in modern land administration, noting that digital systems are essential for transparency, planning, and unlocking economic value.
Tinubu pointed out that the projects align with his Renewed Hope agenda, which focuses on building a digitally driven and economically strong nation. He commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for setting a new benchmark in project delivery and encouraged other states to follow suit.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks, described the projects as strategic investments designed to address key areas of governance. He explained that the bridge would significantly ease congestion around the Ikeja-Maryland-Ojota corridor, improving daily life for commuters.
Beyond traffic relief, the project includes pedestrian walkways, bicycle lanes, solar-powered streetlights, and modern service ducts. It also features a robust stormwater drainage system to tackle long-standing flooding issues along the Odo-Iya-Alaro corridor.
Speaking on the LAGIS building, the governor said it marks a shift from outdated paper-based processes to a more efficient digital system, strengthening property rights and boosting ease of doing business in the state.
He added that the multi-agency complex is designed to enhance coordination among government agencies, improve service delivery, and provide a better working environment for public servants. By bringing multiple agencies under one roof, the facility is expected to drive faster and more responsive governance.
Sanwo-Olu explained that naming the complex after Tinubu was a way of honouring his lasting contributions to institutional development in Lagos.
The new administrative complex, built within the state secretariat, sits on over two hectares of land and features four high-rise blocks with modern office spaces, conference facilities, a penthouse, and parking for more than 300 vehicles. It is fully equipped with advanced mechanical, electrical, and safety systems, reflecting Lagos’ push toward efficient, 21st-century public service.
