The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has carried out an operational visit to Plateau State following the recent attack on Angwan Rukuba Community in the Nasarawa Gwong area of Jos North Local Government Area, which sadly claimed the lives of innocent residents.
Condemning the incident in strong terms, the IGP, upon his arrival, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, to express his condolences to the government and people of the state over the March 29, 2026 tragedy. He subsequently visited Angwan Rukuba for an on-the-spot assessment of the affected area.
The IGP disclosed that immediately the distress call was received, the Police launched a swift and coordinated response. This involved the deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Usman Nadada, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force, AIG Francis Iwu, along with eight units of the Police Mobile Force, the Special Intervention Squad, and other tactical and intelligence teams. These efforts were carried out in close collaboration with other security agencies, including the military.
According to him, the situation has been largely brought under control through these coordinated operations, as well as continuous engagement with the Local Government Chairman, community leaders, and youth groups. Security personnel remain strategically positioned to maintain peace, while ongoing intelligence-driven operations are focused on tracking down and arresting those responsible for the attack.
The IGP assured that operations will continue until full normalcy is restored. He also cautioned youths in Jos against resorting to self-help or reprisals, warning that such actions could further inflame tensions and derail ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace.

In his address, the Executive Governor of Plateau State praised the Nigeria Police Force for its swift response to the situation. He specifically commended the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Bassey Ewah, as well as the crucial role played by the Police Mobile Force in bringing the crisis under control.
However, the Governor stressed that there is still a need to strengthen the overall security structure. He advocated for the creation of State Police to improve efficiency and responsiveness, and also highlighted the importance of adopting modern policing tools. In particular, he recommended the use of night surveillance drones equipped with infrared technology to enhance security operations.
Highlighting the importance of intelligence in tackling security challenges, the Governor urged the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) to step up their intelligence-gathering efforts. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the police with necessary logistics, while acknowledging ongoing challenges such as the state’s vast terrain, limited manpower, and the distance between armouries, which continue to affect effective coverage.
In response, the Inspector-General assured that he would brief the President and Commander-in-Chief on the current security situation as part of broader national security coordination.
He also appealed to residents to stay calm, remain vigilant, and continue to obey the law, while encouraging them to provide useful information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts. The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country.
