The Lagos State Taskforce has unveiled a new Anti-Crime Patrol Unit as part of fresh efforts to tackle crime and environmental violations across the state.
Speaking at the agency’s headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi, the Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, explained that the move was necessary to root out criminal elements posing threats to residents and visitors.
He noted that the unit will serve as a rapid-response team, ready to act at any time. Its responsibilities include arresting and prosecuting offenders involved in crimes such as drug trafficking, street hooliganism, activities of “area boys” (popularly called Omotaku), raids on criminal hideouts, environmental pollution, attacks on government officials on duty, quack practices, “one-chance” robberies, and other related offences.
Akerele stressed that the Taskforce is fully committed to making Lagos safer, adding that surveillance, patrols, and enforcement operations will be stepped up across known hotspots.
“We are determined to clamp down on criminal activities across the state this year. We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that offenders either abandon their crimes or leave Lagos,” he said.
The Taskforce also reassured residents of its dedication to protecting lives and property, while calling on the public to support security efforts by sharing useful and timely information.
The newly introduced Anti-Crime Patrol Unit will operate round the clock, focusing on preventing and stopping criminal activities before they escalate into serious threats to public safety.
