Troops of Operation Hadin Kai on Wednesday foiled a Boko Haram attack in Mallam Fatori, located in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, killing three senior commanders and over 80 insurgents in the process.
In a statement, the Media Information Officer of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, named the slain commanders as Abdulrahman Gobara, Mallam Ba Yuram, and Abou Ayyuba, noting that they were responsible for planning and leading the failed operation.
He also listed other fighters killed during the encounter, including Zarkawi, Ba Bunu, Rawa Fannami, Abowor Suwurti, Bulama Mil, Abu Aisha, Suleimana, Abu Rijal, Abu Ali, Abba Gana Kawiyya, and Ahmodu Hirasama.
According to the statement, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), under Operation Hadin Kai, successfully repelled a coordinated five-pronged attack on their positions in Mallam Fatori in the early hours of Wednesday.
The terrorists, who advanced in large numbers on foot and deployed armed drones in an attempt to overrun the troops, were met with strong resistance and ultimately pushed back.

Troops from Operation Hadin Kai successfully thwarted a Boko Haram assault on Wednesday in Mallam Fatori, located in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation led to the deaths of three senior insurgent commanders and over 80 fighters.
According to a statement from Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, Media Information Officer of the Northeast Joint Task Force, the slain commanders were Abdulrahman Gobara, Mallam Ba Yuram, and Abou Ayyuba, who had masterminded the attack. Other known casualties included fighters identified as Zarkawi, Ba Bunu, Rawa Fannami, and several others.
The statement explained that the attack involved a coordinated, five-pronged assault, with insurgents advancing in large numbers on foot and attempting to use armed drones to breach military positions. “Our troops anticipated the assault and had prepared a combined offensive-defensive response designed to decisively repel the attackers,” Lt. Col. Uba said.
Through careful coordination, disciplined fire control, and tactical precision, the troops disrupted and routed the insurgents, neutralizing at least 80 fighters. Close air support from both the Operation Hadin Kai Air Component and allied Nigerien aircraft added pressure on the retreating militants.
Following the battle, troops recovered a significant cache of weapons and equipment, including 52 AK-47 rifles, eight PKT machine guns, seven RPG tubes, five general-purpose machine guns, more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition, 21 RPG bombs, nine improvised explosive devices, communication radios, and components of armed drones.
Despite the intensity of the assault, Nigerian forces suffered minimal casualties, with only four soldiers wounded and promptly stabilized. The elimination of the insurgent commanders dealt a major blow to Boko Haram’s command structure and operational capabilities in the area.
Lt. Col. Uba emphasized that the successful defense refutes false claims suggesting that troops are overwhelmed. “Our forces remain firmly in control, maintaining dominance through coordinated operations, joint force integration, and high morale,” he said.
The Military High Command praised the troops for their courage and resilience, urging them to maintain their operational momentum. The attack is the latest in a series of attempts by insurgents to target military locations across Borno State, but Wednesday’s decisive victory demonstrates the growing effectiveness and readiness of Operation Hadin Kai forces.
