The event celebrated their decades of dedicated service to the nation.
The ceremony, hosted at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, brought together senior management, officers, colleagues, and well-wishers to pay tribute to the retiring officers’ remarkable careers.
In his address, Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, highlighted that the occasion was more than a farewell—it was a moment to recognise the professionalism, discipline, and contributions of the officers. Represented by Deputy Comptroller-General Sulaiman Chiroma, the CGC emphasised that a Customs officer’s career is measured not just by rank but by the values they uphold and the lasting impact they leave on the Service.
Describing DCG Nnadi as a seasoned and strategic officer, the CGC noted his significant contributions across key commands, especially in areas where revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security intersect. Nnadi’s tenure was marked by dedication, professionalism, and intellectual input into policy discussions on Customs modernisation and continental trade initiatives. He was also praised for mentoring younger officers and shaping the next generation of Customs leadership.
ACG Egwu, meanwhile, was recognised for his instrumental role in driving reforms within the Service, particularly through technology adoption that improved operational efficiency and transparency. The CGC recalled Egwu’s impactful leadership as the 10th Commandant of the Customs Command and Staff College, where his focus on discipline, ethical conduct, and knowledge shaped the training of many officers.
Responding, DCG Nnadi expressed gratitude to God and the Service for the opportunity to serve the nation. He described his journey as one defined by learning, teamwork, and commitment to the core mandates of Customs: revenue collection, trade facilitation, and border security. He reminded serving officers of the need for discipline, adaptability, and innovation, given the evolving global trade environment.
ACG Egwu reflected on over three decades in the Service as both challenging and rewarding. He paid tribute to colleagues who lost their lives in the line of duty, calling them heroes whose sacrifices strengthened national security. He encouraged current officers to uphold integrity, embrace public service as a privilege, and build reputations that endure beyond leadership roles. Egwu also expressed appreciation to the CGC for entrusting him with key roles throughout his career, including his leadership at the Command and Staff College and the Tariff and Trade Department.
