The Ondo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, has responded to allegations published by Sahara Reporters on March 2, 2026, concerning the arrest of six suspected fraudsters linked to an alleged miracle scam in Idanre.
In a statement released by the Command, the police clarified that the arrest was carried out in full compliance with due process and standard criminal investigation procedures. According to the Command, all operational guidelines were strictly followed throughout the process.
The Command further disclosed that the suspects voluntarily provided confessional statements, both in writing and through video recordings, in which they reportedly admitted involvement in the alleged offence. These statements, the police noted, were obtained in line with relevant legal provisions and will form part of the evidence to be presented during prosecution.
While addressing the allegations raised in the report, the Command confirmed that it has formally taken note of the claims and has ordered a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation to establish the facts. The investigation, it said, will be comprehensive and independent, reflecting the Command’s commitment to accountability and professionalism.
The police also called on individuals making the allegations to come forward with detailed information and any supporting evidence that could assist the ongoing inquiry. Their cooperation, the Command emphasized, is vital to ensuring a fair and transparent review of the matter as efforts continue to uncover the truth and uphold justice.
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal also firmly denied claims that he authorized anyone to collect money on his behalf or for any purpose. He stressed that such actions are completely against the ethical standards of the Nigeria Police Force and the Command’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption and misconduct.
The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to community-focused policing and the protection of lives and property across the state. It assured the public that any officer or individual found culpable at the end of the investigation will face appropriate disciplinary or legal action.
