Dangote Granite Mines, a subsidiary of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), has given a major lift to education in its host communities by awarding bursaries to several deserving students in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
The gesture highlights the company’s continued commitment to empowering young people, supporting local families, and driving sustainable development.
At the award ceremony—which brought together community leaders, proud parents, excited students, and officials of Dangote Granite Mines—students from the four host communities of Ayebandele, Olorunmodu, Saliu Babarisi, and Idi Omo received their bursary cheques. The initiative reflects the company’s inclusive approach to community growth.
Joseph Alabi, General Manager of Community Relations for Dangote Granite Mines, reaffirmed the Group’s strong focus on social responsibility. He revealed that 40 tertiary-level students and 20 secondary school students were selected for this year’s awards, signaling support for both higher education and foundational schooling.
Alabi explained that the bursary is only one part of a broader intervention in Ijebu-Igbo, which includes renovating classrooms, improving health facilities, installing solar-powered boreholes, and supporting local cultural projects. He also emphasized that the bursary scheme is designed to support students throughout the duration of their academic journey—not just as a one-time benefit.
“This bursary goes beyond financial support for one academic year. We stay committed to our beneficiaries until they complete their studies,” he said.
Representing the Sopinlukale of Oke-Sopin, Oba Mufutau Adesesan Yusuf, High Chief Ademola Ariyo praised Dangote Group for its consistent partnership with the host communities. He commended the company’s positive and responsive approach to community needs, describing its education initiatives as evidence of genuine care for the people.
“When you invest in our children’s education, you’re investing in the future of Ijebu Igbo,” High Chief Ariyo said. He noted that the bursary joins a long list of other impactful community projects delivered by the company over the years.
The joy among beneficiaries was clear. One of them, Zainab Ontilo, a tertiary student, expressed heartfelt appreciation: “This support will make a big difference in helping me complete my education without stress.”
Another awardee, Enitan Haruna, added, “Now I can focus fully on my studies without worrying about where my next tuition payment will come from.”
The ceremony concluded with the formal presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries.
