Dangote Fertiliser Limited (DFL) has entered into a major strategic partnership with thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology (UFT), a subsidiary of Germany’s thyssenkrupp Uhde, to license its state-of-the-art UFT Fluid Bed Granulation Technology for four new urea granulation plants in Nigeria.
Under the agreement, thyssenkrupp Uhde will provide the technology license, a comprehensive Process Design Package (PDP), and key proprietary equipment — including granulators and scrubbers — to support efficient and sustainable production.
Each new facility will have a daily production capacity of 4,235 metric tons, increasing Dangote Fertiliser’s total urea output from about 2.65 million tons to over 8 million tons annually. The new units will be built in Lekki, adjacent to DFL’s existing fertilizer complex, which has successfully operated using UFT technology since 2021.
The expansion will feature UFT’s next-generation scrubbing system, which significantly cuts energy use and ensures ultra-low emissions of dust and ammonia — meeting some of the world’s toughest environmental standards. The plants will also adopt Ammonia Convert Technology (ACT), an innovation that integrates ammonium sulfate byproducts directly into urea granules, reducing waste and boosting efficiency.
