The Anambra State Government has refuted a viral social media report alleging that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo intends to arrest and jail Catholic bishops and priests after securing a second term in office.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the government described the story as completely false, baseless, and malicious, calling it a calculated attempt to incite tension and disrupt the peace currently enjoyed in the state.
“This fabrication is clearly the handiwork of desperate opposition elements who have run out of ideas and resorted to cheap propaganda following the collapse of their campaigns,” the statement read. “They are advised to redirect their efforts towards meaningful engagement rather than spreading falsehoods.”
Dr. Mefor reassured the public, particularly members of the Catholic Church, that Governor Soludo — himself a devoted Catholic — harbors no such intentions. He reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering respect for the rights and freedoms of all citizens, including religious leaders and institutions.
He urged residents of the state to disregard the fake report and verify any information they come across before sharing, stressing that the government remains committed to maintaining peace and unity across Anambra.
The Commissioner also restated the government’s determination to sustain its “Oso Soludo” campaign, a drive aimed at curbing the activities of fake native doctors, false prophets, and spiritual impostors across the state.
In addition, the government pledged to work closely with the Federal Government to track down and eliminate cases of certificate forgery within Anambra, ensuring integrity and accountability in both public and private institutions.
