The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the Bankers’ Committee for their pivotal role in revamping and commissioning the iconic National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.

AFRIMA described the restoration as a bold investment in Nigeria’s creative future and a powerful statement on preserving the country’s cultural heritage.
Originally inaugurated in 1976, the National Theatre has long stood as a symbol of Nigeria’s artistic pride. Its recent transformation, championed by the CBN and Bankers’ Committee as part of their national contribution, was unveiled during Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary celebrations.
AFRIMA President and Executive Producer, Mike Dada, hailed the project as a milestone for the nation’s cultural economy.
“The National Theatre has, for decades, been the heartbeat of African creativity—hosting music, theatre, film, and cultural festivals. Reviving it is not just about restoring a building, but renewing cultural confidence and investing in the next generation of Nigerian and African talent,” Dada said.
In addition to celebrating the Theatre’s rebirth, AFRIMA congratulated Nigeria on its 65 years of independence, praising the nation’s resilience and global influence in music, film, fashion, and digital culture.
“On behalf of the AFRIMA International Executive Committee, I warmly congratulate Nigeria. The country remains a key pillar of Africa’s cultural identity, inspiring not just the continent but the world,” Dada added.
He also noted that Nigeria’s role as host of the 9th AFRIMA has further amplified African music globally, fostering unity and cultural pride across the continent.
AFRIMA reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing African talent, promoting music, and celebrating culture as a driver of development and continental pride.
The 9th AFRIMA, organised in partnership with the AUC, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and Lagos State (the official host city), continues to build excitement.
