The Pharmacy Department of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) joined colleagues across the globe on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, to celebrate this year’s World Pharmacy Day, themed “Think Health, Think Pharmacists.”

The celebrations kicked off with a courtesy visit to the hospital management, followed by a health-awareness walk and sensitization talks across various hospital clinics.
While receiving the team, LASUTH Chief Medical Director (CMD), Professor Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, commended the department for its dedication, describing it as vital to the hospital’s success. Represented by the Deputy Director of Clinical Services and Training (Clinical 1), Dr. Bamidele Ayodele, the CMD reaffirmed management’s support and urged pharmacists to stay committed to their calling. He emphasized that dispensing medication is as crucial as diagnosis itself, noting that pharmacists play a central role in sustaining healthcare delivery.
Head of Department, Pharm. Dr. Patricia Titilola Odunuga, highlighted the importance of the theme, explaining that pharmacists are not just medicine dispensers but also deliver preventive care, support public health campaigns, promote rational use of antibiotics, and remain trusted healthcare contacts—especially in underserved communities. She also thanked hospital management for increasing the number of interns rotating through all pharmacy units.
Other speakers at the event echoed similar sentiments. The event chairman, Hon. Idowu Obasa (represented by Dr. Olatunji Koolchap), described pharmacists as frontline healthcare providers, patient advocates, policy influencers, and innovators ensuring safe, accessible healthcare for all. The keynote speaker, Dr. Lolu Ojo, encouraged young pharmacists to embrace self-discipline, sharpen their skills, and maintain self-awareness to excel in their careers.
The day also featured awards for outstanding staff who excelled in departmental games. The celebrations ended on a lively note with a novelty football match between LASUTH’s male football team and pharmacists from the department, which ended 1–0 in favour of the LASUTH team.
