Anambra State, under the leadership of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has been ranked the best-performing state in Southern Nigeria — and third overall nationwide — in the 2024 State of States Fiscal Performance Report.

The report credits Governor Soludo’s strong governance and reform-driven approach for the achievement. In less than three years in office, the governor has rolled out transformative projects that have earned him widespread praise, with many residents calling him “The Solution” and “The Jinx Breaker.”
According to the rankings, Cross River and Kwara joined Rivers, Lagos, and Anambra in the top five, while Ebonyi and Kaduna — both in last year’s top tier — dropped off. Jigawa replaced Zamfara at the bottom of the table.
Analysts link Anambra’s impressive score to Governor Soludo’s results across multiple sectors:
- Security: Deployment of the Agunechemba security network and tech-driven policing under Operation Udo Ga-Achi has helped curb crime.
- Infrastructure: Large-scale road construction and urban renewal have reshaped towns and cities.
- Education: Public schools have been revitalised, free education introduced, and 8,115 teachers recruited.
- Healthcare: Five new general hospitals have been built, others upgraded, more doctors and nurses hired, and free antenatal care introduced for women.
- Economy: Fresh investments, industrial growth, agriculture, and youth-focused digital training are driving economic expansion.
These milestones have brought Governor Soludo several honours, including Vanguard Newspaper’s Governor of the Year Award (2025), The Sun’s Governor of the Year (2024), and Independent Newspaper’s Governor of the Year Award (2024) for his urban renewal efforts.
He was also recognised as the best-performing governor in primary healthcare delivery nationwide in 2024, an award jointly presented by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Health, and UNICEF.
With these accomplishments, Anambra continues to strengthen its reputation as a model for fiscal discipline, innovation, and people-focused governance.
