He also persuaded some bloggers to post the Fundamental Right Suits on social media, including First Defendant Adewale Ajimogobe, who used his online media platform to spread the suit with the caption, “HE IS A CRIMINAL AND BEHIND ALL ILLEGAL ACTS- EX-MFMF Church SINGER SUES FOUNDER, Daniel Olukoya, OTHERS, SEEKS N15.5 BILLION IN DAMAGES.”
Uncomfortable with the unchecked wave of falsehoods and defamatory posts against the clergy, his personal assistant filed a criminal complaint against AYOTUNDE RICHARDS and ADEWALE AJIMISOGBE on social media. They were later charged with a number of offences against the explicit provisions of the Cyber Crime Act and arraigned before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi.
But as the trial was about to start, the first defendant, Adele Ajimosobe, rapidly assessed his chances and made the decision to enter into a plea bargain with the prosecution, agreeing to publish a retraction and offer a public apology—both of which he has already done—in exchange for a small fine and a warning that, should the prosecution succeed in convicting him, he would be sentenced to a term in prison.
According to the April 11, 2025, court order (of which we were provided with a verified true copy), After contacting the lawyer of the nominal complainant, Dr. D. K. Olukoya, and expressing regret and offering his unreserved public apology for his wrongdoing, the first defendant is to forfeit N50,000.00 to the state.
Dr. Olukoya is like a father to him and vows never to do the same thing again. The trial against AYOTUNDE RICHARDS, who is now the last defendant remaining to face his own charges, is postponed until June 3, 2025, after which he is released from all charges against him.
