To speed up Nigeria’s growth, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, the senator for the Lagos East Senatorial District, has urged for increased cooperation between leaders of the public and private sectors. Senator Abiru, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, spoke Thursday in Lagos as the chairman of the David Oladipo Leadership Roundtable and the book launch of “The Real Leader.”

He underlined the urgent need for a new leadership compact to advance national progress. “A new leadership compact that bridges the gap between leadership in the public and private sectors is necessary for Nigeria’s future,” Abiru said. “We need to form a coalition of competence in which the private sector leads innovation, investment, and execution, and the government offers a long-term vision and enabling environment.”
He also underlined that when important parties actively cooperate, significant growth takes place. “When legislators listen to communities and industry leaders, when civil servants see themselves as nation-builders rather than gatekeepers, and when private sector leaders embrace a sense of national responsibility beyond profit, true development occurs,” Abiru continued. “We need synergy, not silos, whether we are discussing addressing energy poverty, changing agriculture, redefining education, or developing smart infrastructure.”
The event’s keynote speaker, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, reiterated the view, emphasising that a country’s success or fall is mostly dependent on its leadership. He exhorted Nigerians to return to the principles that once made their country great.The significance of leadership transformation was also emphasised by the event’s organiser, Dr. David Oladipupo, who celebrated his fiftieth birthday with the book launch.
“We have the assurance of better outcomes with better leadership across the board,” he stated. We are here to work together and figure out how to close the leadership gap that has impeded our development in order to get Nigeria and Africa out of the woods. This is our nation; we alone, not development partners, multilateral organisations, or global financial institutions, hold the key to our redemption.
In order to build alliances and a common vision for a thriving Nigeria via responsible and visionary leadership, the event brought together thought leaders, policymakers, business executives, academics, youth leaders, and civil society advocates.
