Mattawale: “We are dedicated to regional defence cooperation.”

Nigeria is dedicated to regional collaboration, as stated by Dr. Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence. Mattawale made this statement as the Special Guest of Honour at the Gala night yesterday in Abuja honouring the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff (CCDS), which was held on the sidelines of their 43rd Ordinary Meeting.

“I reiterated on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria our dedication to collective security, regional defence cooperation, and the operationalisation of ECOWAS standby structures. “A unified, coordinated military response is necessary to counter the dangers facing our subregion, which include transnational organised crime, terrorism, insurgency, violent extremism, and maritime instability.

“These issues cannot be handled by one Armed Force alone. We must keep enhancing intelligence sharing, interoperability, and cooperative operational planning throughout our military systems.

According to the Minister, Nigeria is still totally committed to helping regional frameworks that improve ECOWAS’s professionalism, force preparedness, and mission performance. “For the sake of regional peace and stability, we have the duty—and the capacity—to present a cohesive defensive posture.

“My commendation goes to General Christopher Gwabin Musa, Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and Chairman of the ECOWAS CCDS, for his leadership and service to our region,” he stated.
