North Matawalle points out important reforms in the North, warns Lawal, and affirms Northern Nigeria’s steadfast support for President Tinubu.

H.E. Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle MON, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, has vehemently denied Dr. Babachir Lawal’s recent remarks about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s aspirations for the presidency in 2027. Matawalle underlined that Lawal and his colleagues will be taken aback by the overwhelming support the President will receive from the North and that President Tinubu has made admirable progress in his role as leader.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has only been in office for 19 months, has made significant contributions to all regions of Nigeria, including the North,” Minister Matawalle said in his statement. The North’s populace will support Mr. President in building on the reforms and accomplishments he has started.

The Minister emphasised a number of crucial areas, including security and defence, where President Tinubu has implemented significant reforms that deserve the support of the Northern electorate: Over 8,000 terrorists and bandits were killed by Nigerian security forces in 2024, 11,600 criminals were taken into custody, and over 10,000 firearms were found. The North’s security has greatly improved as a result of this strong effort.

The government’s dedication to guaranteeing everyone’s safety is demonstrated by the successful recovery of about 8,000 kidnap victims. Additionally, strategic coordination in the battle against kidnapping has improved since the Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell (MAAKFC) was established in December 2024 in partnership with the UK’s National Crime Agency. “The North remains steadfast in its support for President Tinubu,” Dr. Matawalle underlined. Any suggestion to the contrary is an intentional effort to foment division and jeopardise our security as a nation.

The Minister stated that, when examining the administration from an economic perspective, initiatives such as the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development are intended to harness the agricultural potential of the North, fostering economic expansion and empowering millions of people, especially women and young people in the region. It is anticipated that this project will improve food security and change rural communities.

The efficiency of the government’s agriculture policies is demonstrated by the recent drop in grain prices nationwide, he said. Additionally, the administration of President Tinubu has given top priority to infrastructure projects, such as building new roads and enhancing transport networks, which are essential for the North’s economic development. Local Government Autonomy: President Tinubu’s enactment of this law gives local administrations the authority to operate efficiently, guaranteeing accountability and improved governance at the local level.

Rather than discounting President Tinubu’s efforts, Matawalle urged detractors like Lawal to consider his scorecard impartially. We in the North must evaluate the observable advantages of the President’s initiatives. “The progress being made should not be overshadowed by the cries of dissent,” he said. He affirmed in closing that all Nigerians, young and old, male and female, in every region of the nation, may look forward to growth and hope as a result of President Tinubu’s reforms.

He underlined, “We must stand together in support of Mr. President as he continues to work towards a prosperous and secure Nigeria.” Additionally, Dr. Matawalle reiterated the Northern region’s dedication to the Tinubu government.

President Tinubu has our steadfast and unflinching support. We wholeheartedly support his goal of a safe and thriving Nigeria.
