President Ahmed Tinubu has been urged by the National Accountability Crusade Vanguard (NACV) to immediately reconsider his choice to name Dr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi the Federation’s Acting Accountant General. The group’s Executive Director, Dr. Kamarudeen Salu, characterised Ogunjimi as an opportunist and an unsuitable candidate for the position of Accountant General of the Federation in a personally signed statement that was made available to the media last night.

The organisation called Mr. Ogunjimi’s years of public service in financial management in both the public and private sectors a waste and a long merry-go-round since he did nothing but turn into Publilius Syrus, a rolling stone that doesn’t collect moss. Sc.) in Accountancy and a Master’s in Finance and Accounting—were either the result of deliberate error or a testament to the decline in educational standards. Mr. Ogunjimi is incapable of managing or advancing the current government’s economic reform plan since he lacks the expertise, integrity, trustworthiness, and fundamental transparency required of such a position. In a nation plagued by frequent strikes and disruptions in education, the group questioned whether it was possible to earn the West African School Certificate in 1985 from the Government College in Ikorodu and earn a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka in 1990 in just four years.
They also questioned how he managed to earn his Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos in the same time frame. Although they question all of his qualifications, they characterise them as absurd, a fluke, or the result of the cash-and-carry mentality in our school system. As a result, they firmly feel that such a person lacks the moral responsibility and strength to successfully and efficiently advance fiscal reforms and guarantee financial openness in the government.
How is it possible for someone who joined the civil service in 2000 to be appointed AG-F in January 2025 after only 24 years of service? They asked. claiming that he is unqualified for such a high-level and demanding position since he lacks the fundamental bureaucratic experience and skills. It is unjust to enter the civil service and choose the highest position because he has spent his entire life and career in the dubious private sector since 1991, when he is believed to have worked as an accountant at Humana Diagnostic and Heart Centre in Lagos.
Finally, we declare that Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi is not qualified to serve as the Federation’s accountant general. Therefore, we categorically urge Mr. President to reconsider the choice and only permit qualified individuals to take over when Madein eventually steps down from office,” they said.
