The group chairman, Mr. Larry Izamuje, has suspended the broadcast services of the broadcast networks in Port Harcourt and Abuja as a result of the second arrest in the investigation of the organised corporate fleecing of Brila FM.

An informant claims that after the group’s former chief accountant, Ekerete Sunday, was detained earlier, one engineer, Sam Victor Mpong Akakan, the station’s head for the Port Harcourt branch, was also recently taken into custody. We learnt that the Igbosere Lagos Magistrate court in Tinubu-Lagos issued a remand warrant to the police after their arrest so that a thorough investigation could be conducted.
Only two months after Brila fm Port Harcourt started operations with him as the Head of station, the court heard that Engr Akakan maliciously took the first three letters of Brila and the word “CAST” from “BroadCASTing” and registered the business name Bricast Communications with the intention of committing crimes against his employer, Brila Broadcasting Services Ltd.
In coordination with others, Engr Akakan sent a number of Bricast Communications invoices containing Bricast account information to a number of Brila FM customers in order to divert funds for sponsored shows and advertisements that were broadcast on Brila FM stations, specifically in Abuja and Port Harcourt. He is also under investigation for falsifying broadcast certificates from Brila FM, selling them to customers using his Bricast invoices, and receiving money from these transactions in his Bricast account.
He was alleged to have frequently introduced himself to unwary customers, including churches, as Brila FM’s marketer. After being persuaded to conduct business with Brila FM, he regularly sent them with Bricast invoices to pay his own company, Bricast. According to our sources, the Abuja and Portharcourt branches, where the fraudsters primarily worked, have been temporarily suspended in connection with a fraud case involving more than 200 million naira.
When nearly nil returns became the norm for years due to the actions of a now-dissolved fraud cartel, it was said that Dr. Larry Izamoje, the group’s chairman, approved the suspension of operations in the Abuja and Port Harcourt branches. It was claimed that the impact of their fleecing became so severe that the business was unable to satisfy its operating demands and continued to be in desperate difficulties.
Remarkably, our source told us that the aforementioned engineer, Engr. Akakan, has confessed to the police and corporation and is now begging for forgiveness. More fraud cartel suspects could be apprehended shortly to vomit their part of the wealth as the police investigation’s dragnet grows.
