Commissioner claims that the government is committed to youth. Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has reaffirmed the value and advantages of sports for Nigeria. Dr. Obasa asserts that sports should not be undervalued because they have the power to strengthen the nation, uplift the youth, and boost national companies.

At the launch of the second edition of the Obasa Games 2024, which the organizers hope will further bring Lagos’ youth together, the Speaker made the statement on Friday night. The Speaker praised Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa, the chairman of Kings Sports International and the organizer of the Obasa Games, and pointed out that new sports developments led the Lagos Assembly to revise the State’s Sports Commission Law to include new, youth-friendly areas.
“I have always been a sportsman and I have a strong enthusiasm for football. Sports are beneficial to this state and the country, and I want to emphasize that they are our children’s future. Travel anyplace in the globe; sports are now very profitable,” he stated.
Obasa also emphasized how sports can be used to reduce crime and encourage young people to participate in activities that advance the development and prosperity of the country. We now understand that the government cannot create jobs on its own. The Obasa Games will continue, he added. “We have also realized that because of the peculiarities of our nation and our advantage in terms of population, we can generate businesses out of sports to move the youth away from crime.”
Omobolaji Ogunlende, the Lagos Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, also praised the game organizers and promised government support for similar youth-development activities. He urged everyone to give it their all. “The success of the first edition of the games gave the impetus to continue and expand the scope,” Abdul-Ganiyu remarked in his speech.
The Lagos West Senatorial District’s 10 Local Government Areas and 18 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) send teams and outstanding athletes to this year’s competition, which includes football, boxing, table tennis, chess, and Scrabble. According to him, the purpose of the games was to recognize the Speaker of Lagos State’s outstanding efforts and vision. “We have been inspired by his dedication to the advancement of our state, his steadfast support of our young people, and his enthusiasm for using sports as a catalyst for positive change,” he stated.
High Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, the chairman of the Agege Local Government Area, stated that the Orile-Agege Local Government Development Area and his council agreed to collaborate with the organizers in order to share Obasa’s enthusiasm for sports.
“Sport has shown itself to be an adaptable and affordable means of advancing goals for peace and development. “Sport is also a significant facilitator of sustainable development,” he remarked, exhorting locals to constantly adopt a sportsmanlike mindset.
