As part of their unwavering commitment to social justice and global ethical standards, the Advocacy for Social Justice and Ethical Values Initiative (ASJEV) and the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) organized a press briefing with the theme “Ethics Empowered” to commemorate Global Ethics Day 2024 at the PSSDC in Magodo Ikeja.

In her introductory remarks, ASJEV member Mrs. G.K. Daodu emphasized the importance of the family in forming people’s moral principles. She emphasized that families are the fundamental units of society and can help create a country where justice and truth are upheld. “Through this press briefing, we hope to promote ethical values by drawing the attention of people from all walks of life to the negative effects of poor ethical standards and collectively come up with realistic solutions in creating a more ethical society,” she said.
During the press briefing, Mr. Adekunmilola Toluwase Adio-Moses, the Director-General of PSSDC, emphasized the importance of all citizens making constructive contributions to society by encouraging professionalism, discipline, and morality.
He emphasized the significance of promoting moral principles in all spheres of life, saying that people can make a significant and long-lasting contribution to their communities by upholding these ideals. He went on to say that “it is our responsibility to inculcate these values for the greater good because ethics enable us to make a difference, not only in our professional lives but in the broader society.” Dr. (Mrs.) Nike Oduwole, who also spoke on behalf of ASJEV, went into further detail about the importance of families in fostering moral principles in a child’s early years.
She emphasized that families are essential in forming future generations capable of upholding moral principles. Dr. Senukon O. Ajose-Harrison, FCIPM, also spoke at the occasion and addressed the moral dilemmas confronting Nigeria’s economy. Strong ethical standards are crucial for promoting sustainability and economic success, he emphasized. Mr. Ayodeji Abdulrauf, FCS, CBAP, contributed to the discussion with a talk titled Ethics Empowered for the Socio-Economic Development of the Society.
Since trust promotes advancement, creativity, and social cohesiveness, he emphasized the need of ethical behavior and trust in promoting sustainable economic growth. “Cohesion, investment, and advancement may all be fueled by trust. Any civilization that empowers ethics would not only realize its full potential but also foster a culture of trust, creativity, and cooperation with a high degree of dedication and satisfaction from its citizens,” Mr. Abdulrauf emphasized.
The highlight of the press briefing was when PSSDC Director-General Mr. Adekunmilola Toluwase Adio-Moses presented a compilation commemorating PSSDC’s 30th anniversary, looking back on three decades of dedication to ethical leadership and public service growth. In order to improve public service and promote socioeconomic development throughout the State, the Lagos State Government is still dedicated to advancing ethical standards through the PSSDC.
