Polaris Bank collaborates with UI and NCF to grow trees and conserve the environment. October 6, 2024 (C) Through a tree-planting campaign, Polaris Bank Limited has partnered with the Nigerian protection Foundation (NCF) and the University of Ibadan (UI) to promote environmental protection.
Polaris Bank Ltd. and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) representatives revealed this to Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan, during their courtesy visit. Abimbola Ozomah, Executive Director of Corporate & Investment Banking at Polaris, stated during the visit that the program is a component of the bank’s CSR initiatives. According to Ozomah, the bank’s motivation for the project was to honor World Environment Day on June 5, 2024, and to consistently make a beneficial impact on communities and the environment.
She emphasized that, in keeping with the UN’s objectives for ecosystem restoration, the topic of World Environment Day 2024 is land restoration, desertification, and drought resistance. According to Ozomah, Polaris Bank Ltd. is dedicated to environmentally friendly methods and restoring land by planting economic trees across the country. She lists tackling environmental challenges, guaranteeing sustainable economic growth, empowering people and society, and encouraging responsible banking as some of the bank’s sustainability policies. The Nigerian Conservation Foundation’s Senior Manager, Mr. Adedayo Memudu, emphasized that the group promotes Nigerians to value nature and prosper while coexisting with it. He said that the NCF has collaborated with Polaris Bank Ltd. to strengthen the bank’s corporate social responsibility and sustainability platforms because one of its basic pillars is its dedication to partnership growth. Following the visit, trees were subsequently planted at a predetermined location on the university campus.
Later on, the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, Polaris Bank Ltd., and the University of Ibadan will sign a Memorandum of Understanding. UI Registrar, Mr. Ganiyu Saliu, spoke on behalf of the Vice Chancellor and reiterated the university’s dedication to preserving campus vegetation and fostering a greener environment to enhance people’s well-being. Despite more significant environmental concerns in Nigeria and around the world, Saliu said that the University of Ibadan’s deliberate conservation efforts are demonstrated by the abundance of “Iroko” trees on campus.
He clarified that the institution maintains a systematic procedure for tree clearance rather than permitting the careless felling of trees. The registrar also mentioned that the university started a project to plant 1,000 trees in honor of the UI@75 anniversary. These trees will be taken up by well-meaning Nigerians, and the university will provide the support required to ensure their viability. He emphasized the value of cooperation between the academic community and the general public, saying that in order to overcome common environmental concerns, both sectors must work together. Saliu thanked Polaris Bank Ltd. for collaborating with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation on the tree-planting project and expressed gratitude for the organizations’ combined efforts to address shared issues in Nigeria.
On July 1, 2024, at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Polaris Bank launched a nationwide tree-planting initiative for land restoration. On August 30, the initiative moved to Ajingi Community Reserve, Kunkurawa, in Kano, Kano State, and on October 3, it moved to the University of Ibadan. Polaris Bank has a reputation for proactively tackling development and sustainability difficulties, encompassing social and environmental issues.
