The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has declared extensive security measures to guarantee a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.
The IGP has mandated that, on Election Day, all vehicle traffic on roads, rivers, and other kinds of transportation be prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in anticipation of the election. There will be exception for necessary services including emergency responders, ambulances, elected officials, and recognised journalists.
In order to preserve the electoral process’s integrity, the IGP has prohibited the use of any security assistants or escorts when taking VIPs to polling places and collation centres. In order to maintain a peaceful voting environment, unauthorised security professionals and quasi-security groups are not allowed to operate during the election.
Additionally, unauthorised cars are not permitted to use sirens. Furthermore, in order to guarantee that voting places in both urban and rural settings are accessible to everyone, the IGP has ordered that special consideration be given to those with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, the elderly, and those who have mobility issues.
For the Edo Gubernatorial Election, the Inspector-General of Police, via the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG), DIG The control room and specified support numbers should not be used for prank calls, according to Frank Emeka Mba, mni, who has urged the public to use text messaging instead of phone calls for operational needs.
