The President stressed that his purpose in office is to serve the nation, not himself, at a meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, which was chaired by former Senate President Ken Nnamani.
“I came to work, not to take advantage of the circumstances and hunt for money. Following a session of small talk and handshakes with former parliamentary colleagues, the President—a former senator—told the gathering, “I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me.”
Sixteen past presiding officers attended the meeting, including former speakers of the House of Representatives, deputy speakers of the House of Representatives, and presidents of the Senate.
Regardless of political background, the President thanked the Forum members for their support and encouragement and pleaded with them to keep promoting solidarity and togetherness in order to meet the goals of national development.
In light of the intricate nature of legislative proceedings, constitutional revisions, and nation-building endeavours, the President conveyed his optimism that Nigeria can advance via cooperation and inclusivity. You still have faith in me and our shared vision for our nation, despite past party divisions and current challenges.
