Olawale Abdulfatai Abideen has been named head of the department of media and strategic communications by the Progressive Institute, TPI, Abuja.

Launched in Abuja last Friday, the institute is a recently formed Policy Think Tank of the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC. Abideen, a prominent investigative journalist and Security Monitor publisher, received a postgraduate diploma in journalism (PGD) from the esteemed Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Lagos, and a B. A. (Homs) in linguistics from the University of Ilorin.
In addition, he received multiple trainings and certifications in strategic communications both inside and outside of Nigeria, tracking criminal operations, and investigative reporting. He’s pursuing a master’s degree in mass communications right now.
Beginning at the Herald Newspapers, a publication of the Kwara State Government, Abideen began his journalism career. He has worked in various local and international media outlets. He was previously the Head of Investigative Desk and Political Correspondent in The Week Magazine, as well as a former Lagos Specialist and Political Correspondent in The Source magazine.
Abideen is the creator of the African Centre for Investigative Journalism (ACIJ) and the founding President of the Nigerian Association of Online Journalists (NAOJ).
She is a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalism (ICIJ). At the Institute for Governance and Leadership Studies in Africa (IGLSA), Abuja, he served as the media strategist.
