The Federal Government’s decision to hire an outside auditor to confirm the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPC Limited) claim of receiving petrol subsidies has been applauded by the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP).

This action is interpreted as supporting the CNPP’s long-standing demand for an impartial forensic audit of NNPC Limited. The CNPP stated in a statement signed by Comrade James Ezema, its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, that the need for a thorough investigation is highlighted by the lowering of NNPC Limited’s subsidy claims from N6 trillion to N2.7 trillion following an initial audit by KPMG.
The statement said, “The CNPP has consistently demanded an independent forensic audit of NNPC Limited, now a government-owned company, since the Goodluck Jonathan administration.”
The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Limited, Engr. Mele Kyari, has been accused of corruption, mismanagement, and a lack of openness. The CNPP has voiced worries about these claims, which have reached a height. “We applaud the Federal Government’s efforts to investigate NNPC Limited, but we maintain that an audit’s effectiveness depends on the suspension of management.
Anything less would enable offenders to carry out their evil deeds, the statement continued. NNPC Limited has been characterised by the CNPP as a centre of corruption, with its leadership involved in dishonesty and poor management.
“In order to guarantee justice and uncover the truth, we need an extensive, impartial, and public investigation—including the suspension of management. The statement concluded, “This is about preventing the collapse of the Nigerian economy, not about people.
It is hoped that by calling for a thorough investigation and management suspension, the CNPP will bring NNPC Limited’s subsidy claims to light and hold those involved accountable.
