AS PROTEST ENDS IN LAGOS, SANWO-OLU OPENES NEW GOVERNMENT ENGAGEMENT CHANNELS

The protestors in Lagos have been commended by the Lagos State Government for their nonviolent demeanour and their declaration that their actions would cease after today’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) broadcast.

“Your stoppage of the protest today is a crystal clear affirmation of the fact that you know the government has heard your collective voice,” Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said in admiration of the protest organisers in Lagos. Not only is what you did commendable, but it is also the polite thing to do.”

Mr. Governor has ordered that the conversations and interactions that the State government started before the action must go on, even though the protest has stopped, as a sign of the Lagos State Government’s dedication to ongoing engagement with the youth. As a result, Mr. Governor has instructed the Office of Civic Engagement, Ministry of Information and Strategy, and Ministry of Youth and Social Development to establish wider lines of communication with all stakeholders, including the protest leaders, as soon as possible.

Rumour mongering, fear tactics, and warmongering shall never be tolerated by Lagosians. That is not who we are or how we do things. That’s not how we do things. Mr. Sanwo-Olu commends Lagosians once more for choosing peace over turmoil. He commends all security agencies, the Department of State Services, the Police Command, the Military, Civil Defence, and Neighbourhood Watch for their professional behaviour.

The Governor expresses immense satisfaction at the contributions made by our customary rulers, civil society organisations, community leaders, religious leaders, student leaders, and other individuals who helped maintain peace in Lagos.
