In the midst of a nationwide protest, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa of the Lagos State House of Assembly has praised the state’s level of calm. Dr. Obasa notably commended the populace for listening to the voice of reason and wisdom while praising the demonstrators’ nonviolent behaviour throughout Lagos, the South-West, and other significant regions of Nigeria.

The Speaker noted that the demonstrators largely followed the law, allowing locals to go about their lives in peace, in a statement released by his chief press secretary, Eromosele Ebhomele. “It is admirable how Lagosians have behaved since the statewide protest got underway on Thursday. Many locals chose to listen to reason’s voice and stay away, but those who chose to air their complaints in public did so within the bounds of the law. “These complaints have been brought to our attention, and I firmly believe that neither the state nor the federal governments are doing enough to elevate Lagos and Nigeria beyond what we now see.
“President Bola Tinubu is supporting policies that will eventually raise Nigeria to the status that we can all look forward to.” He has taken action in the interim to lessen the difficulty of the food scarcity that is the basis of the protest. “In Lagos, in addition to maintaining standards, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has provided roadmaps for more developments with the support of the House of Assembly under my speakership,” Dr. Obasa stated.
The Speaker stated that the Governor Sanwo-Olu government has not only addressed hunger throughout the entire state but has also persisted in implementing measures to do so, particularly with regard to the Sunday Markets, which offer a 25 percent discount on all major food items and would shortly be resurrected.
The state administration has pledged to keep giving citizens access to the benefits of democracy. Other measures being taken by the government include the Medical Outreach program, which provides many with free treatments, the free delivery of healthcare for expectant mothers, and the reduction of costs on government-run transportation services, according to Obasa.
He gave the assurance that the House would work with the executive branch to maintain citizens’ enjoyment of the government, but that the legislative branch would also remain the last resort for the people of Lagos.
The Speaker also praised religious leaders, traditional and community leaders, development and related associations, market leaders, and artisans for their understanding and support of the government. The Speaker had earlier met with residents of Agege and obtained their promises not to participate in the protest. He also thanked law enforcement agents in the state for acting professionally in maintaining law and order.
