The Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria had been scheduled by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for Friday, July 18, 2024. At this meeting, Minister of Education Prof. Tahir Mamman is anticipated to establish the minimal cut-off scores for the 2024–2025 admission cycle.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s spokesperson, revealed this in the organization’s weekly bulletin, which was made available the media on Monday.
The admissions policy meeting establishes the framework for the admissions process and the creation of admissions criteria for each academic year. Along with application statistics and candidate performance evaluations, it also establishes the minimum acceptable standards for admission to all tertiary institutions in Nigeria for the specified year.
Major speakers anticipated at the gathering comprise chief executives of oversight organizations like the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE), leaders of higher education establishments across the nation, and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among others.
According to the bulletin, “The Registrar will analyze key performance indicators that could influence the government’s policy directions and present reports on the recently completed Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications during the exercise.
The gathering would also serve to inform participants of the key concerns that surfaced throughout the previous year’s admissions process. Furthermore, the policy meeting would assess candidates’ performance in the current year’s UTME to establish the minimum permissible score for that year.
It is worth noting that stakeholders had previously reached an agreement on the minimal admission requirements for admission to universities, polytechnics, and education colleges. In addition, the meeting’s objectives were to establish the year’s admission requirements and initiate the admissions process for the current year, address outstanding issues from the previous academic year, evaluate stakeholders’ adherence to current advisories, and recommend updates as needed.
